Commercial fashion photography is often used to sell things like jewelry, products, clothes, etc., and the criteria is less strict. You can be any size, shape, weight, age, etc. Models can have a more classic look than and model makeup editorial. 

Editorial models tend to have a more edgier, bold look and are often used in editorial and magazine photoshoots. You have to be at least 5 8". If you can land these gigs, which are hard to come by, they can be financially lucrative for large advertising campaigns. Some models might also be used as an actress in commercials, films, etc.
